Artist Statement
As a clay artist, I am inspired and frequently surprised by clay's versatility. I enjoy making use of texture, contrast, color and multiple elements to make forms from teapots to birdhouses that are esthetically pleasing and sometimes humorous. I usually incorporate some reference to human form or movement. The attire that women traditionally wear to garden parties, particularly fancy hats, inspired the teapot designs. They are also meant to suggest theatrical poses and gestures that might be observed at fancy-dress parties.
